22nd March, Sunday Trees have long been an integral part of Mumbai’s landscape, with many standing tall since the days when the city was known as Bombay. These trees have not only shaped the city’s green cover but have also lent their names to various localities and served as natural landmarks for generations. Mumbai is home to approximately 318 tree species, nearly half of which are exotic, introduced by British plant enthusiasts in the early 19th century from tropical regions worldwide. These trees have adapted over time, becoming a vital part of the city’s biodiversity. Join this walk to explore the fascinating history behind these rare trees, their origins, and their deep-rooted connection to Mumbai’s evolving identity. Grade: Easy (1–2 km of easy walk) Reporting: Hornbill House (BNHS), near Kala Ghoda at 8:30 a.m. The programme will conclude between 10:30-11 a.m. Charges: Rs. 700/- for members, Rs. 800/- for others.
