Report a Bird Resighting

Seen a bird with a ring, tag, flag, or marker? Report where and when you saw it, then tell us about the bird. Your observation helps researchers understand migration and conservation patterns.

Reports are linked to your BNHS account, so the ringing team can write back to you with what they find.

My resightings

What to note before you report

  • Where you saw the bird — village, district, wetland or coordinates.
  • The date, and the time of day if you have it.
  • The marker type, with any code or colours you could read.
  • A photograph, however distant.
  • The species, if you know it.

You do not need to catch or handle the bird. Never disturb a marked bird to read its ring.
