Mangrove Conservation

The project began in November 2014 aiming to restore mangroves in a 100 ha area around Jaigad creek, where waterbody had dried up in mudflats owing to the impact of Kasari-Satkondi Kharland bund.

Background

Mangrove loss along the Konkan coast reduced coastal protection and nursery habitat for fish and birds. Restoration at Jaigad creek addresses damage linked to bund construction and dried mudflats.

Project section

The project began in November 2014 aiming to restore mangroves in a 100 ha area around Jaigad creek, where waterbody had dried up in mudflats owing to the impact of Kasari-Satkondi Kharland bund.

Restoration efforts combine scientific assessment with on-ground planting and community stewardship to rebuild coastal buffers and nursery habitats for fish and birds.
